Odontoclasts
Three dental hard tissues, i.e., cementum, dentin, and enamel, are resorbed by multinucleated cells referred to as "odontoclasts." These cells have morphological and functional characteristics similar to those of boneresorbing osteoclasts.
The fibronexus is a cell surface specialization consisting of intracellular actin filaments and extracellular fibronectin filaments associated with subplasmalemmal plaque material.
The fibronexus, by mediating cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix attachments, may serve to transmit contractile forces generated by actin microfilaments in these cells throughout the diseased tissue.
The most common primary teeth that become over-retained are the maxillary (upper) second molars and the maxillary canines.
